So what is this all about?

The RaceMotion system is a GPS tracking system for competitors, coaches, and clubs and organisations alike. It allows competitors to record and track their races or training sessions and then share it with their coaches, friends, family and anyone interested in following their progress.

RaceMotion provides online tools aimed at enhancing the experience of being involved in a sport at any level - and even for the speed junkie there is something there too with useful tools for uploading tracks from a GPS logger and seeing your top speed and max 10 second speed.

Who does it benefit?

RaceMotion's tools benefit the sailor by enabling them to track their performance against goals that have been set themselves or have been set by their coach. Athletes can keep a log book of races or events with their private notes, and also public notes for sharing with their coaches or fans. Fans can track their results and leave comments and messages of support.

The RaceMotion system benefits coaches by allowing them to watch all their sailor's races in detail, and analyze where any tactical or speed improvements can be made. RaceMotion also benefits clubs and organizations, by giving them a  professional image that helps retain members.

The online tools are mainly aimed at (but not restricted to) sports such as Sailing, Cycling, Rowing, Long Distance Running, Windsurfing, Kitesurfing, Go-karting, Rally Racing, and Cross Country skiing and Snowbaording. Generally it works best with any motion based sport where there is a set course and good visibility for the GPS receivers.

How does it work?

Using the online member centre, users of the RaceMotion system can upload GPS tracks of their training runs or actual races. This enables them to see distance travelled, max speed, average speed and a whole bunch of other useful data.

The GPS tracks are recorded by using a GT-31 GPS receiver although there is support for other types of GPS logger files also. The files are uploaded through your own member centre, and stored in RaceMotion's databases. For sailing, there is a 3D animation that can be played which shows all of the boats sailing around a course, and allows the user to follow a particular boat simply by clicking on it. The course shows laylines, line of advantage, and is overlaid on satellite imagery.
